There
is nothing consciously arty about the way that I photograph dogs.
I approach it according to my attitude to dogs, which is that they
are complex individuals, with character and dignity. They are also
great to look at, like sculptures that move (constantly!). While
they come in an astonishing variety of sizes and colourings, they
are always essentially "dog" - a fascinating quality in
itself.
Put
all these together and there is a lot to photograph.
The
dogs are photographed "on location", on home turf, going
about their business. I try to make shots that will stand the test
of time both as reminders of much-loved animals and as creative
photographs in their own right.
It
is the same with cats. Except that they are essentially "cat"
- which changes everything!!
